An “old country” bans face veils

In France, banning of face veils is being described as a popular move by many voters, and got majority support by French Parliamentarians.  So all eyes will be on France to see what ripples in cultural relations and international diplomacy will take place in the comings hours and weeks.

The ban, which is also supported by the CFCM – Conseil Français du Culte Musulman, is said to be “a crack down on a garment [that has] no place in a secular society committee to woman’s rights,”   In addition, Nicolas Sarkozy reinforced France’s position as being an “old country anchored in a certain idea of how to live together.”
